Global Finals just started! Or so it seems. Now the 1,031 teams from around the World will be heading to closing ceremony at Thompson-Boling Arena at the University of Tennessee.

The Mysterious Power Cube at Closing Ceremony!

Video and photos of this event will be here soon!

While still cloaked in mystery, the Power Cube will be unveiled this evening. This 15-by-15-by-15 foot cube is part of the finals for the National Dairy Council’s Nutrition & Fitness Challenges. All we can divulge is that it involves a gi-normous number of 3-by-3 cardboard boxes.

The other main ingredient of the Power Cube is the printed graphics that cover all six sides of each box. That’s 750 sides by 9 square feet per side, which is almost 7,000 square feet! After doing the math, DI looked for a company to help with this project.

Avery Graphics, makers of mailing labels and other self-stick materials, stepped up to the plate and donated the super wide self-adhesive vinyl to print and then adhere to the sides of the boxes.

“The company supported DI’s Power Cube project not only because it was a worthy cause, but also because it was quite an interesting use of Avery’s products,” says Tom Durner, Avery Dennison’s manager of Strategic Alliances.

Avery and Durner also recognize the value of what DI teaches its student participants. “One cannot ignore the fact that the very skills that Destination ImagiNation cultivates in their members are utilized by businesses everywhere,” Durner says. “So in essence our support is helping to develop tomorrow’s business leaders.”

The sponsor expo and pin trading areas are busy, and teams are having a great time! Many are taking part in the Nutrition and Fitness Challenge of the National Dairy Council, while others can't help but have their photo taken with Elsie the cow from Borden!
